Over the last few months we have carried out body off refurbishments and suspension overhauls on a number of 80-82 Corvettes. Almost all of these cars have suffered major chassis cracking at the front end. This seems to be a common problem with the later cars. we think resulting from a great deal of weight reduction measures enforced by GM at this time when fuel efficiency was paramount. This is a very serious problem with these cars. I would urge any owners of later Corvettes to check front wheel to wheelarch clearance. and to get their car on a ramp and have a look at the frame in the front suspension area.
